Yoga has been part of my life more consistently since 2007. I had previously taken yoga classes sporadically, but my move to a new city and job really opened up my need to find more balance. What I was doing for my health and wellness of going to the gym regularly was not working and I found my stress and anxious feelings overwhelming me. Yoga is a beautiful practice of slowing down the chatter, calming the mind, integrating the breath more purposefully and finding the heart center! It is an opportunity to journey inward and discover all the wonderful gifts we already have! The opportunity presented itself to study to become a yoga teacher through the Boston Yoga School with Ame Wren and Tiffany Cagwin! As one of the more shall we say "mature students" in the class, it was a most beautiful experience and I fell in love with the gift of being able to offer space for myself and for others! It became part of my practice as a Nurse Manager to offer Care for the Caregiver and have classes at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse NY for my staff and any other employees who desired it. Yoga and meditation became part of the Integrative care we offered to our patients and families! And now yoga has brought me to the beautiful area of Southern Delaware to be more physically present for my parents as they navigate through living with Alzheimers! We all have our challenges in life to work through and offering caring, compassionate kindness to everyone we encounter can help ease the unseen burdens of others. Yoga is one way of doing this. By offering ourselves this kindness through breath and movement we can then better extend this to others! Body, Mind and Soul are our foundation for our human life and when we take the time to nourish each of these we will thrive! Our thoughts, our beliefs and our emotions have an impact on our physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellbeing. The human body is miraculous in its ability to heal itself!! Tapping in to these resources within can bring amazing healing in so many ways. Once a nurse, forever a caregiver! Take time to nourish yourself and you will be stronger, more able to move through life, all of its challenges and appreciate the simple beauty it has to offer. Namaste
